3:10 to Yuma

This was a decent enough Western, but nothing earth-shattering. - T

I thought the acting was good, and the story increased in drama and tension as it chugged along, but the end left me standing at the station, shaking my head. What was it all about? An elaborate act designed to stop a youngster from sassing his father, or the uplifting tale of an outlaw who is reformed by the decency of one man? It's a question I'll have to trestle with. - A

Michael Clayton

Enjoyable. Maybe a little Hollywood, especially by the end. On a related note, I think I am really in love with George Clooney and that we'd be very happy together. Is that wrong? - A

I liked this one a lot. (Maybe THIS is the "feel good" movie of the year.) Clooney is always Clooney, but that's never a bad thing, if you know what I mean. Anyway, I enjoyed it, but I feel I have to mention, since I did in the last post, that this should not win best picture. Either "No Country" or "Juno" should, of the ones that I've seen. - T

Atonement

The movie is a very good rendering of the book, but I'm not sure I liked the book all that much. - A

There were certain parts of this movie that were interesting - the periods of absolute quiet (except, of course, for people talking in the theater) and the time shifting early on, for example - but they were not enough to overcome a very unpleasant and irritating storyline. Toward the end, it just feels like a rip-off. If this wins best picture, I am FINISHED with the "academy." - TÂ
