Rashomon

IMDB: Rashomon

A bit overdone at times (to this Western, twenty-first century viewer), but overall, quite good. An interesting study of reality, through the very unreal medium of film. - T

The same tale is told from four points of view, one of which was the spirit of a dead man who communicated through the offices of a medium. It was about the nature of humans who are all self-serving and dishonest, but at the same time, may have some redeeming qualities, so don't give up all hope. Sound good? - A

I have to leave the real review to Amy, because I didn't last more than 45 minutes through this one. I couldn't imagine a more irritating film. - T

Well, this was one of the most irritating movies I've ever seen. The sound started and stopped (on purpose, I'm pretty sure), the characters spoke in an odd, sing-songy way, the story line was lame, and all of the three main characters were annoying. It seems to have been some kind of experimental 60's film, but I would have to say that the experiment was not a success. The ending redeemed it a little, but not enough. - A

Interesting, intense and unusual. All good things. - T

I also really liked this movie. It had a few problems, if you stopped to think about it too much, but while it was happening, it was quite a good ride. I enjoyed the lingo. I would watch this movie again. - A

Aside from the ending being a little problematic, I liked this. What can I say? I like Drew, and I enjoy the character that Hugh Grant always plays, and his sidekick was good, too. It's about what you'd expect. - T

Overall, I enjoyed the movie. Hugh Grant is funny. I laughed. Brad Garrett and Kristin Johnston were also good. I thought the Eighties-style music video at the beginning was clever. There might have been the seed of a better movie in here somewhere, but it went untended. - A

I didn't hate this movie. Matthew McConaughey is easy on the eyes. - A

I suppose I didn't hate it either, but I was happy that we were watching it in our living room so I could get up and walk out when Kate Hudson was being incredibly annoying. I know she was supposed to be, but she still was! They seemed to know exactly what would bother the boys. Congratulations. - T
