Fearless

IMDB: Fearless

Meh. A fairly standard story with some pretty good fighting thrown in. At one point, you can really tell that the fighters are computer-generated. I didn't like that too well. I'd like to see how much of this could be done for real real. - A

As Amy states, it is one of the six or seven stories that is recycled throughout all fiction (this being the one of redemption), except that this one claims to be a true story. Read all about it here. As far as the movie goes, I liked it pretty well. I like Jet Li, and hearing Chinese, and seeing a bit of China, is always interesting. - T

Ocean's Thirteen

The plot is complicated and hinges on impossibilities, but, the cast is enjoyable to watch - George Clooney is especially easy on the eyes. I think 13 is better than 12, but not as good as 11. - A

A bit sillier than the previous two, but still quite entertaining. I have always liked Ellen Barkin (although she's looking a little "stretched" these days), and was happy to see her in a movie again, albeit in a small, ridiculous role. - T

Children of Men

IMDB: Children of Men

No surprises here, except one thing that would count as a spoiler, so I won't mention it. I think it might be better to have read the book first, assuming that the book provides more background to the story. The interesting part of this movie seemed to me to be how the world got this way and how it was going to get out of it, but that wasn't really what the movie was about. - A

Somewhat interesting, but overall, it ended up annoying me more than I might have liked. - T

Much, much funnier than I thought it would be. A cool summer treat. Slide into a seat at a theatre near you. It's nICE. - A

This was hilarious. Ferrell has won me over completely. - T

DNF - T

This movie comes with a warning, and the warning is: Do Not Watch. (I also DNF because it was terrible, worse even than that French movie a few posts back, which I did finish watching even though it was pretty bad). - A

Art School Confidential

It's movies like this one that make you appreciate good films. This is a terrible one. Even formidable actors (Malkovich, Broadbent, Huston, Buscemi - and wasn't that Morgan Freeman as the guard at the end?!!?) are gilding on a dandelion. Everything is so blunt. The art school "types," the writing, the directing... it's all awful. Perhaps Clowes and Zwigoff really do believe that "bad" art is really "good" art, and if so, bravo guys, you did it! - T

Lame. That's the word that kept coming to mind as I watched this movie. As cliched as a scarecrow with no brains. So bland and hackneyed without seeming to be even remotely aware of it. How could that be, you ask? I have no idea. - A

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

It had its good moments and its bad moments. Val Kilmer was good. Some of the writing was bad. - A

Val Kilmer was very good. R. Downey Jr. grew on me throughout the film, but overall, the bad moments outweighed the good. - T
