Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Working our way through the Paul Rudd catalogue... This was pretty funny! I expected nothing, and was thoroughly entertained. - T

Highly entertaining! - A

The Color of Money

A far, far cry from the original. Why do I hate the eighties so? I lived through them in the prime of my youth. Oh well, I just do, I guess. Maybe because of movies like this, and actors like Tom Cruise. Well, maybe it's just Tom Cruise. This movie isn't horrible, but it's not great. It's nice to see John Turturro in anything. - T

Yuk. Turturro gets a gold star. Newman was in the pink, even with that mustache and those large glasses. Cruise gets a black mark. - A

The Hustler

Excellent. George C. Scott steals the show, but my favorite line comes from Piper Laurie. When Newman asks why she's going to school, she says "I've got nothing else to do on Tuesdays and Thursdays." And when he asks her what she does on the rest of the days, she answers: "I drink." - T

News flash: Paul Newman is very good looking. The movie had a lot going for it: interesting (and attractive) characters, reasonable plot, gripping psychological drama. Also, Paul Newman is so handsome. - A.

Burn After Reading

IMDB: Burn After Reading
Source: Netflix
Date viewed: February 19, 2009

Clooney and Pitt are too much themselves to work as "ordinary" people in this movie. Malkovich, on the other hand, manages to pull it off. Overall, too much "clever idea," too little heart. The story never generates enough heat to burn before, during, or after watching. - A

The scenes I enjoyed best were the ones in the CIA guy's office, which I believe were the heart of the movie, and I agree that the overall concept was better than the execution. Also, nobody's very likable, which, while not really a flaw per se, doesn't make a so-so movie any better. - T

He's Just Not That Into You

Entertaining. - A

I also was entertained by this movie. I love Drew, and the guy from the Mac commercials was pretty good. Jennifer Connelly was kind of scary, as was Ginnifer Goodwin, but much less so. Maybe it's just because we were coming off two pretty terrible movies that this one seemed so palatable, but maybe it really is ok. It's hard to know for sure. - T
