Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

I don't know which was greater, my dislike for this movie or my loathing of many of the people around me in the cinema. One may have fed the other. I am beginning to wonder if I will ever again attend a movie in a public cinema where people behave themselves for the entire ninety minutes. Imagine! Alan Rickman was good. - T

I have to say that every time I see one of these Harry Potter movies, I question why I read the books. Somehow, the movies make the story seem unappealing. Perhaps the vision I have of the characters and scenes is not shared by the current crop of cinematographers. I am now looking forward to the eventual and inevitable re-filming of the series sometime in the future. - A

Dear Frankie

I don't really know what to say about this movie (I know some of you are saying "for once!" to yourselves). I put it on the queue because I loved the look and the accent of Gerard Butler, who I saw in Timeline (the only good thing to come out of watching that movie). The characters are quite pleasant - some particularly easy on the eyes. However, the storyline is contrived - only a very specific set of circumstances could make this story possible, or at all plausible, so what's the point? I think the message is - and you heard it here first - kids are smarter than you think they are. - A

I'm not sure why a contrived storyline would make all that much difference in what you thought of a movie. How many times does a nobody boxer from Philadelphia get a chance to fight the reigning champ? And how many times does some archaeologist discover the ark of the covenant... Anyway, I liked this one all right. Not great, but somewhat interesting. - T

Irritating. - T

To me, it really seemed like the two main characters shouldn't be together, so I wasn't broken up when they split. I think the idea was that they were supposed to have gone through some kind introspection and have new self-awareness by the end of the movie, but I just didn't care. Vincent D'Onofrio, who played Vince Vaughn's brother, was probably the most sympathetic character, and, as he was on screen for maybe 15 minutes. - A

Remind me never to see anything with Yves Montand in it ever again. - T

There's a lot not to like about this movie. The character played by Yves Montand is one of those things. On the up side, however, the other two principal actors were easy on the eyes, and hey, it's in French! - A
